Spencer seniors ready for the season ahead

Senior squad pre-season training is now over. From next weekend the real stuff begins, starting with tricky away game against Hillcroft, face 2pm.

Pre-season started on the 14th August with Sunday morning sessions at the Spencer club. A month later we added Wednesday night sessions at Raynes Park (7:30-8:30pm) and these will continue into the season for those who can make it.

Also this season we managed to arrange two friendly games for the two weekends before the season. First up was Reading who invited us over to their place for a game. A low scoring game, finishing 6-3 to Spencer but one where the attacks were not quite firing on all cylinders. New players Mike Goodman, in defence, with Ant Broadhurst and Keith Holloway, both midfield, all looked the part in the colours of Spencer.

This weekend the boys from East Grinstead came up to Spencer for a game. East Grinstead are new to the league this year and should do well. They look to have good numbers, a few quality players and plenty of young keen novice players who are likely to develop quickly. We were pleased to our new players from last season like Cliff Hide and Andrew Mottershead really coming on now and making good scoring chances. Spencer debuts were for Steve Greszczyszyn and Peter Sayia.

The game finished 12-6 to Spencer and was good fun. We think East Grinstead will be very competitive in the East Division this year. As for our chances this year? We’ll see what happens game by game. Many will be close and I predict some 4th quarter nail biters ahead.
