League Week 8: Spencer 2's 11 - 12 Reading 2's

The Spencer 2’s were brought down to earth on Saturday by a Reading team who would be a match for anyone in East Division 1 if they were to be able to consistently field the same personnel. Spencer were undoubtably guilty of not preparing correctly for this game – perhaps reading too much into the results to date and the commentary on Lax Forums.

It was not all doom and gloom – all parts of the team had their bright moments. However a lack lustre start and some sloppy passing throughout gave Reading lots of possession which they used well. The defence dealt with the dodgers well but Reading were probably the first team we have faced who cut and fed the ball really well at times – and we conceded a number of goals this way.

Spencer’s best spell was in the 4th quarter when we pulled back a 4 goal gap back to 1 goal. However the clock ran down and Reading left deserved 12 vs 11 winners.

Not the end of the world but a valuable lesson and we’ll need to regroup and come out firing against Penarth next week. We certainly perform better when we warm up properly and get focussed before the game – so next week we will look to get back to basics.

Spencer 6 – 13 Walcountian Blues (Flags)

Sorry, no match report available.
