A hot streak by London Uni in the 3rd quarter won them this game. Their four unanswered goals gave lead that the Spencer 3rd team could not pull back.

The 4th quarter fight back was pleasing. Spencer switched Glen from attack with Brendan in defence. This did not weaken the back line but gave another possible shooter in attack. Brendan took his goal well, a solo effort from up top, but Spencer will remember a stray over-the-shoulder pass back to keeper Colin which fell to an open London Uni player and gifted a goal. Fair dues to Brendan, he bought the first round in the pub and the matter was forgotten.

London Uni played as we expected; lots of running, plenty of aggression and a few players with decent stick skills. However Spencer made too many basic passing/catching errors today which preventing any settled attack forming. The odd times we strung together good ball movement it resulted in a goal, or, quite frequently, a save from the London keeper with his foot, shoulder, chest, arm, quite literally everything except his stick.

Two Spencer players on debut today; Simon Vaughan and Rodney Yong-Set. Both impressed with their confidence and willingness to get stuck in. A few more training sessions to hone the stick skills and these guys will be real assets to the 3’s this season.

Spencer also welcomed back Craig Simkin who missed most of last season with the birth of his first child, and Stevie Schumacher who was working in mainland Europe for the past year.
