League Week 2: Brighton 5 - 5 Spencer 2's

The 2nd’s had a very good start to the season earning a 5 v 5 draw through a great defensive performance and a last ditch flurry of goals.

The quarter time scores (below) tell the story of a very tight game. Brighton dominated the possession and held the ball for long periods in attack. However the Spencer defence was well organised and in combination with some good saves from Neil and Sho (sharing the duties) managed to keep the Panthers at bay.

At the other end of the field the spencer attack struggled to put too many team plays together however when we did break through we were frustrated by the in form Panthers keeper.

The game had seemingly edged away from us and we found ourselves 5 v 1 down in the last quarter. A well worked goal created by David Crawford and finished (just about made it over the line) by Andrew Mottershead lifted the midfield and attack who started to really compete at ground ball and gain good possession……….. And then Sam Johnson found his shooting boots. Rumours in the changing room suggested that he only woke up when he realised he was destined for D**k of the Day – a situation he turned around with a stunning three minute hat-trick.

Panthers showed us the difference between East 1 and East 2 – we’ll need to work on the clear, the ride and most importantly ground balls. Panthers came out on top in each of these areas and that secured them so much possession. But we can be very happy with this performance.

Quarter Scores: 1-0 / 1-1 / 3-1 / 5-5
