Spencer Lacrosse London

London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

League Result: Walcountian Blues 7 - 11 Spencer

With three clubs tied on points at the wrong end of the league table (Spencer, Walcountian Blues and Penarth), the remaining match-ups against these clubs are massive games. Today Spencer travelled to deepest South London to face the Blues who earlier in the season put one over us at our place.

The game started a little scrappy. It was a cold and windy day and both teams were shocking at ground balls early on which resulted in a low scoring 1st quarter with nothing of note to report. Spencer hit operating temperature in the 2nd quarter and opening up a 7-3 lead and kept that 4 goal lead for the rest of the game.

The face-off battle was won by Spencer. Dan Hughes won his fair share of the initial ball and our midfield generally picked up any lose stuff before possession was called.

In attack we had some good stuff and some iffy patches. Goal of the game was from Will Stern with a dash in from the right, catching a rocket feed from the left and dispatching the goods into the bottom corner. The iffy stuff was linked to ground balls and the occasional bad decision (Alan!) but what mattered today was the win.

There was some good physical stuff on display today as both teams don’t mind getting stuck in. Hit of the day was courtesy of Glen Gardener who sprinted (yes sprinted!) in-field from the bench and, with the help of skipper Alan Keeley, made a sandwich of one of the Blues midfielders. That capped off a very handy defensive midfield contribution from Glen who was playing his best stuff of the season to date.

Good as Glen was, he did not make man-of-the-match. That was a close run thing between the Colin’s; Mr C Byrne in goal was in a shot stopping mood but Mr C Rutter ran for miles in midfield and was always available both in attack and defense.

Man of the match = Colin Rutter
Coach’s vote = Glen Gardener
