Spencer Lacrosse London

London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

League Result: Spencer 8 - 15 Hillcroft

A tale of a missed opportunity to take Hillcroft all the way as Spencer could not find the fluid lacrosse from last week against a slightly under-strength Hillcroft side.

Ant and Dan were very competitive at the face-off and secured much of the initial possession for Spencer but unforced errors often broke down attacking play far too early. The low winter sun was a factor for much of the game but it was Hillcroft who made the most of this with plenty of shots early on and they opening up a healthy lead.

Spencer fought back and found goals easier to come by as the game wore on. Nick Flew bagged four and was well deserved as Spencer’s man of the match.

Hillcroft were missing a few key players but still had enough attacking force to cause us problems. One good shooter and one good strong runner was the recipe for most of their goals. Up the other end we made opportunities but the Hillcroft keeper was solid and saved plenty. We also suffered from a couple of ‘no shows’ that resulted in our squad numbers being down to 12 which included a couple of less experienced players.

To sum up, Spencer left the field frustrated that we did not play to our potential and missed the chance to take Hillcroft all the way in a game we may of won.

The Christmas break means our next game is the 14th Jan 2006. However we’ll be running a training session on the 7th Jan 2006, 2pm at the Spencer ground, to shake out any holiday excesses.

Man of the match = Nick Flew (top scorer with 4 goals)
Goon of the week = Alan Keeley (for arriving wearing shorts and roller blades!)

Spencer were;
Colin Byrne, Alan Keeley, Rob Gooch, Matt Blom, Will Walker (1 goal), Dan Hughes, Colin Rutter (2), Nick Flew (4), Peter Sayia (1), Ant Broadhurst, Cliff Hide, Damian Treanor
