League Result: Spencer 4 - 14 Purley

Forgot the final scoreline for a moment, at half-time we were 6-4 down, then at three-quarter time we were only 7-4 down and were in the mix to give Purley a good run for their money. So what happened in the fourth quarter?

No doubt Purley picked up their game. They made more shooting chances and got their shots on target, forcing Colin in goal to make numerous saves and blocks. I think we dropped off a little, both physically and mentally. The Purley defense worked out what we had to offer up-front and shut us out for the entire second half. After a couple of seasons of getting battered by one of the best teams in the south, it was great to see how much we have developed as a team. We now can’t wait for the return fixture…

So plenty of positive again from defeat. Who had stand-out games?

Joe, Keith and Peter all looked sharp. Will, Dan and Toby were up to their usual high standards. At the back, all four long sticks certainly made the Purley attack work and feel some pain for their goals. Excellent long stick midfield play by Matt Blom stood out. However man-of-the-match went to goalie, Colin Byrne who stopped the scoreline getting silly at the close and distributed the ball well on the clear.

Players Man of the Match = Colin Byrne (solid again in goal)
Players Goon = Glen Gardener (who’s life fell apart after he broke a finger nail!)
Spencer were;
