League Result: Hitchin 17 - 1 Spencer

In the last match before the Lowlands tournament Spencer struggled to field a full side on a bitterly cold day in Hitchin.

With just enough people to play the match we had to be creative rotating midfielders through the attack and Steve G in defense. As usual the scoreline doesn’t necessarily reflect the run of play as we fought hard throughout and had ample opportunities to score. Unfortunately it seemed between the bitter weather, sloppy field conditions, and lack of fresh legs we were unable to put the finishing touch on several good chances.

In defense we looked strong and Steve G was critical in filling the gap left by injuries to a few of our regulars. Midfielders also played well in a physical match that saw multiple penalties on both sides highlighted by a Hitchin player getting sent off by his own coach after some choice words.

The attack mostly held shape and was aided by the return of Andy from injury, however unforced errors (!) killed many of our good chances.

On a positive note a new EMO shape gave us several open looks at the goal which we’ll look to capitalize on in Amsterdam. Man of the match goes to Steve G. who played well in his first at long stick covering a talented Hitchin attack.

Man of the match = Steve Greszczyszyn

Spencer were;
Colin Byrne, Alan Keeley, Matt Blom, Steve Greszczyszyn, Will Walker, TJ Chucoski, Dan Hughes, Will Stern, Pete Sayia (1 goal), Andrew Mottershead
