Christmas came early for Spencer today as we jumped to a five goal lead against Purley in the first 15 minutes of the game. Every time we got the ball in attack, we found the net, it was a perfect start.
Come the second quarter, Purley had to respond, and they did by controlling the ball and being patient in attack. Our goals dried up and Purley levelled the game at 7-7 for the start of the final quarter.
Alas as the game clock ran down, it was Purley with the ball so they had the control. They finished the stronger team and sealed the game with goals near the end to make our first quarter blitz a distant memory (albeit a good memory).
We were disappointed not to hold onto the lead we had worked so hard for but happy with our overall performance. Our defense was solid and much of the credit goes to the midfield who never let the Purley midfield dodgers take the upper hand. If in attack we can reproduce our first quarter performance for a whole game, someone’s going be on the wrong end of a whipping before the season is out.
