Spencer Lacrosse London

London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

League: Hampstead 23 - 10 Spencer

A really enjoyable high scoring game despite the defeat.

With Hampstead being the only Southern League team to play on artificial turf it was great to get out of the mud that most fields are right now and play high tempo lacrosse as it should be played.

Alas Hampstead have this style of lacrosse nailed, are familiar with their home surface, and have a collection of midfield and attack players who can throw a rocket shot into the corner of the goal from any distance.

Shooting proved the difference between the two sides as the game momentum swung from one team to another. Hampstead started well, scoring four quick goals. Then Spencer came back with a couple, then Hampstead got on another goal rush, then Spencer got some back again. The 3rd quarter was best for Spencer and at one point we were just about sniffing a chance to peg back the Hampstead lead but alas they turned the wick up again and pulled clear.

As with last week, we were under-strength but fought well in midfield and defence but lacked the killer pass and shot up front. However saying that our 10 goals mostly came from good team play instead on individual efforts demonstrated by six different goal scorers. A big shout again to our less experienced players, Cliff and Louis who although not on the scoresheet showed great ball control and positional awareness. Goals will be coming their way very soon.

Spencer man-of-the-match was Colin Rutter. Top scorer with three goals and a great work rate in all areas and facets of the game.

We have a week off next Saturday, so the next game is Saturday 24th Feb away at Walcountian Blues. That’s going to be a corker!

Spencer were;
Colin Byrne, Alan Keeley, Rob Gooch, Matt Blom, Dan Hughes (1 goal), Colin Rutter (3), Will Walker (2), Matt Osgood (1), Cliff Hide, Louis Villard, Peter Sayia (1), Nick Flew (2)
