League: Bath 2 - 10 Spencer

A pleasing start to the new league campaign but both sides showed some early season rust as the game started slowly.

After a sluggish start the offense calmed down and worked the ball around well for a 6-0 lead at halftime. The defense was resilient throughout and once the offense started connecting a few passes the goals began to come.

Spencer came out in the second half firing some over aggressive passes but once we settled down we ground out the win in an ugly last 30 minutes that saw 2 goals conceeded.

Colin Byrne was very strong in net with some key saves and the defense did a fantastic job to make sure there were no easy chances or breakaways. Both Jesse and Alan were keen to advance the ball upfield and Mike “hitman” Goodman along with Matt (soon to be nicknamed) Blom held down the Bath attack for most of the game. While the offence started slow we hit our stride in the second half working the ball around well and connecting on several fast breaks.

Alex Eble in attack netted an impressive 6 goals in his first Spencer competitive outing while Mark Davies, Will Walker and Jeff Schaper all played very well upfront. The midfield controlled the bulk of the pitch for most of the game with great performances by Ant, Colin, Dan “the sweater” Hughes dominating face offs.

While there was ample room for improvement in today’s performance it was a solid week 1 result and we look forward to next week’s match at home vs. Hampstead
