London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

Friendly: East Grinstead 2's 5 - 9 Spencer 2's

A new beginning for Spencer with the formation of a 2nd team and the first of a series of Sunday friendly games.

East Grinstead 2’s were the hosts for our debut on a warm and sunny winters day, but on a pitch that had seen a bit too much rain and was a mud bath in many places. The surface condition made nibble running tricky and ground balls a challenge, but at least is was not raining!

Both teams fielded a mix of players. The Spencer old-boy, novice and developing players were supplemented by Peter Sayia (1st team attack) who played half the game as long-stick defence and Ant Broadhurst (1st team midfield) who has not played since October so needed the run-out. EG2 also had a couple of their 1st team playing which all resulted in a really enjoyable game for all.

The initial outlook is bright for a fully fledged Spencer 2nd team competing in the league next season. We moved the ball around quite well and did not make too many unforced errors. Our defence was a bit hit and miss but that would be partly down to tireness as the game wore on due to having no subs. We rotated positions throughout the game (including goalie) so everyone got a feel for different aspects of the game.

The nine Spencer goals included an unfortunate own goal from EG2 but those from our sticks were mostly as a result of good team interplay rather than one-on-one offense, and that’s very encouraging.

The next Spencer 2nd’s friendly is in two weeks time, Sunday 28th January vs Reading 2 at Spencer, 2pm face (see fixtures). So those reading this who want to join us, get in touch!

Spencer 2nd’s were;
Rob Gooch, Glen Gardener, Cliff Hide (1 goal), Arun Anandasegar (1), Anthony Dawson, Stephen Greszczyszyn (1), Louis Villard (1), Peter Sayia (1), Ant Broadhurst (3), Andrew Mottershead
