Spencer Lacrosse London

London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

Flags: Purley 20 - 4 Spencer

No flags final this year as an under-strength Spencer were dumped out by Purley in round 2.

Missing our three top scorers for the season (Alex, Mark and Colin) and with two players suffering from flu (Will and Rob) it was not going to be easy against the efficient Purley side.

And so it proved but it was a much better display than last weeks shocker at Hillcroft. Although we were a little bit shy of firepower up front, we did move the ball better and all while under constant pressure from the aggressive Purley defence.

At the back we played OK but Purley’s better movement and ball control allowed them to pull us out of position during prolonged attacking plays, resulting in open chances on goal.

A big positive from this game was the performance of our ‘2nd team’ players who stepped up to fill the gaps left by our current injury crisis. Cliff played both midfield and defence and showed some good skills with a long-stick. Arun, Andy and Louis ran hard all game and did not disappoint. Andy’s goal (our 4th) was assisted by Louis and showed that if you move the ball well you should open up any Premiership defence.

We’ll be calling on these guys to perform again next week at Hampstead while we search London for a miracle healer who can fix broken hands and heal bad backs!

Spencer were;
Colin Byrne, Alan Keeley, Rob Gooch, Matt Blom, Jesse Churchward, Dan Hughes, Ant Broadhurst (1 goal), Will Walker (2), Cliff Hide, Arun Anandasegar, Louis Villard, Peter Sayia, Andrew Mottershead (1)
