Spencer Lacrosse runs three senior men’s teams in the English Southern League.
For the 2017/18 season, the 1st team play in the top ‘Premier Division’ and the 2nd and 3rd teams play in ‘East Division One’.
Our squad are a mix of youth and experience. Many players have come up through the junior programme. Others have been playing lacrosse in England for many years, or are in London through work or study. League and Flags cup competition runs from October until April with all games on Saturday afternoons typically starting at 2pm.
Seniors Midweek Club Training
All three senior squads train together on Monday evenings, 7:30-9:00pm on the floodlit astro field at Spencer.
Midweek training starts in September and runs through to mid December. All lacrosse then pauses for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Midweek training then restarts early January and runs through to the end of March.
Seniors Equipment – Club Policy
The club provides team playing jerseys which are returned after each game. White club playing shorts are available to buy. If you have not bought playing shorts yet then any white sports short is OK.
The club does not provide lacrosse sticks or protection equipment. New players can borrow sticks from the club until they buy their own. The minimum protection equipment by the laws of the game is a lacrosse-certified helmet and gloves.
It is wise to wear a cricket-style box/cup. Most players also wear elbow and/or shoulder pads. New players will have the opportunity to borrow club kit before investing in their own.
The majority of games are played on grass fields. Cleats are normally suitable for early in the season when the ground is hard and dry, however lacrosse is a winter sport in England so when it’s wet and muddy (which is often) studded football or rugby boots are popular. A few games are played on artificial surfaces, either the nasty sand-based stuff or the nicer 3G rubber crumb surface, so you’ll need a suitable pair of boots for such games.
You’ll need to make your own way to away games. Those without transport can normally get lifts with other players – just let someone know. Match fees are incorporated into the annual club member subscription.
